AbstractAnne Carson's poetry returns to the theme of error throughout her body of work; in addressing this interest in errancy, I propose its relation to Carson's interest in epistemology. Error acts most crucially as a learning event in Carson's oeuvre. In this thesis I build a reading of her works based upon the ideas Carson presents in her poem "Essay on What I Think About Most" in Men in the Off Hours, applying its proposals on error as "an interesting and valuable mental event" to her other work.
